01 / Ayako-mai
Until about the early Showa era, only men danced the Ayako-mai.

A folk performing art handed down in Onadani for about 500 years, it is the collective name for the kouta-odori danced by women and the hayashi-mai and kyogen performed by men. It was passed on only to the eldest sons of designated families. Today the two troupes of Takanda and Shimono carry it on, with a public performance at Onadani on the second Sunday of September each year.
