The Agency for Cultural Affairs notes that the beech forest around Shishigahana Wetland was repeatedly logged over snow for charcoal, and that many agariko can be seen there, trees sending up many shoots from a height of 2 to 3 m. The tourist association presents Agariko-daio, over 300 years old with a trunk 7.62 m around, as the forest's symbol.

Kotaki's Chokurairo dance is performed at the festival of Kinpo Shrine, on an earthen stage in its grounds. The stage is about 3.6 m square and about 60 cm high, and the Agency for Cultural Affairs writes that the dance was once an ennen, a ritual performance, in which Chokai Shugen mountain ascetics took part. Since 2015 it has been held on the last Saturday of May.

03 / Waterway

Mount Chokai's snowmeltis warmed in wide, shallow channels.

The Kamigo warm-water channels in Kisakata are irrigation channels that cope with the cold of Mount Chokai's snowmelt. The Japan Society of Civil Engineers cites their wide channels, shallow water and series of drops as the reason for its 2003 Selected Civil Engineering Heritage listing. The prefecture designated them a Tangible Cultural Property (structure) in 2009.
