At the Open-air Museum area of Mikasa Geopark, a formation about 50 million years old lies next to the Mikasa Formation, about 100 million years old. Stepping across the boundary is described as jumping 50 million years at once. Many ammonite fossils have also been found in the Mikasa Formation.

Crawford Park was completed in 1990 around the site of the former Mikasa Station. The city describes the Horonaiputo station building in the park as a reproduction of its former appearance (later Mikasa Station). Mikasa Railway Village opened as the “birthplace of railways in Hokkaido,” where the first railway in the region opened in 1882.
