01 / Canal

Completed in Kanbun 10 (1670), the canaldraws its water from the Kamanashi River at Nirasaki.

The Tokushima-segi canal was begun in Kanbun 5 (1665) by a merchant from Fukagawa in Edo with the permission of the Kofu domain. The domain took it over and it was completed in Kanbun 10 (1670). Its intake is in Nirasaki, and the water is still used for paddy fields in Nirasaki and Minami-Alps.

02 / Torii

The stone torii stands behind a wall;the way up is by the stairs on either side.

The third torii of Takeda Hachimangu Shrine is a stone torii of the Myojin type, 2.69 m high. A stone wall stands in front of it, so visitors go around to either side. The cross-beam carries a repair inscription of Tensho 12 (1584), and the post of the stairs on the right bears an inscription of Kyoho 9 (1724). The stone torii is said to date from the mid-Muromachi period.

The Ono family, whose shop name was Tomiya, were merchants on Honmachi-dori in Nirasaki, facing the Koshu Kaido, and ran a sake brewery. The Ono house was also the birthplace of Ono Kinroku, who founded the Fuji-Minobu Railway Company. The parlor is in shoin style, and the building has been moved to stand next to the Nirasaki Folk Museum.
