Ryuo Kawara-juku was a settlement along the embankment. To turn the riverbed into fields and have settlers keep up flood defences, people from nearby villages were recruited with an exemption from various duties. By 1565, 50 households had moved in. The Hosaka family documents, five in all and including the Shingen seal document used to recruit settlers, are prefecturally designated.
