Kobundo Ato is a tunnel made by diverting the Burai River, a tributary of the Yoro River. The town says it was built about 140 years ago to open up farmland, and that its crown collapsed before dawn on 24 May 1979 (Showa 54). It was named for its position at the confluence, beside places linked to Emperor Kobun and Princess Toochi.
