02 / Town name

The village name changed twice, and Ikeda Town was fixed at town status.

According to the town's official history, the name was set as Shibosamu Village in 1906 (Meiji 39), changed again in 1913, and fixed as Ikeda Town when town status began in 1926. Settlement advanced through farms including the Ikeda Farm of Marquis Ikeda Nakahiro. The tourism association says the town's name comes from the station built on that farm.
