01 / Furuyama pond

Furuyama Pond is what the town callsHokkaido's first large irrigation reservoir.

In the Meiji 30s (late 1890s to 1900s), more people took up rice paddies, and Yuni Village planned with Tsunoda Village to dam the Yubari River, but the high ground made it hard. So the Yuni Village Irrigation Association built a large pond at Furuyama, the town says.

02 / Shrine forest

Yuni Shrine adjoins the town center, and a place for relaxing around it was wanted. The town held resident workshops for three years, and a Hokkaido project built the path over three years from 1999. It is 1,200 m long, and the town chronology says reconstruction of the shrine hall was completed in 1904.

Yuni Station was created when the railway between Muroran and Iwamizawa opened on August 1, 1892. Known as Poppokan Yuni, the hall was completed on that building's site in December 2006. It is a waiting room for JR, Chuo Bus and demand buses, and a tourist information office.
