One bull's blood runsin the dams of a whole country.

Tajiri-go, a Tajima bull born in the Ojiro district in 1939, has been confirmed as the ancestor of 99.9 percent of Japan's Japanese Black breeding cows. On 5 July 2023 the FAO recognised the traditional Tajima cattle system of the Mikata area, where people and cattle live together, as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System.

From its completion in 1912 the Amarube trestle carried the San-in Line for about a hundred years. When a concrete bridge took over in August 2010, the three piers on the Amarube station side were kept where they stood and became the Sky Station viewing deck, about 40 metres above the ground, looking out over the Sea of Japan.

The guest hall of Daijo-ji (大乗寺) holds 165 painted panels across thirteen rooms, by Maruyama Okyo and twelve of his pupils, all of them Important Cultural Properties. Around the eleven-headed Kannon in the Buddha room, the rooms build the Buddhist world in three dimensions. The originals are now in storage, with exact reproductions in their place.

Kasumi on the JR San-in Line is the gateway, served by the Hamakaze limited express; you can also change to a local train at Kinosaki-Onsen. For the Muraoka and Ojiro districts, take a Zentan bus from Yoka. By car the town reckons about 3 hours from Osaka and about 2 from Himeji.
