Honedera Village was an estate of the Chuson-ji sutra repository's keeper, and corresponds to today's Hondera district. Close to the form shown in the Mutsu Province Honedera map kept at Chuson-ji, winding channels and irregular paddies spread out, with houses sheltered by ignes (house windbreaks) scattered among them.

A Dutch-studies scholar, a Chinese-studies scholar, a linguist.Papers of three generations of scholars survive.

The Otsuki family, from Ichinoseki, produced Gentaku, a scholar of Dutch studies, Bankei, a scholar of Chinese studies, and Fumihiko, the linguist who published the dictionary Genkai. The family's 4,048 items, including 415 manuscripts and 2,859 documents and records, are kept by the Ichinoseki City Museum.

In the Murone Shrine festival, two portable shrines compete for the lead at the Matsuriba, the site of the temporary shrine, and fan and bell dances are offered. Processions of Araba-senjin, Horo-senjin and Dashi follow, with duties shared under the Jinyaku system kept by families over generations.
