01 / Farm manual

Finding the Nogyo Zensho ill-suited,a Karumai man wrote his own manual.

The farm manual 'Notes on Cultivation in Karumai Village' was written and revised over 15 years from 1847 by a man in Karumai village who ran a sake-brewing and pawnbroking business. Together with his Yuigon (a testament), the two volumes were designated by the prefecture in 2013. The prefecture records that no manual teaching techniques suited to this region's climate and terrain existed before the end of the Edo period.

  • Prompted by the Nogyo Zensho
  • Prefectural designation, 2013 (with Yuigon)
