The Kanagawa Ward history site tells how Taro, son of Urashima Taifu of Sagami Province, saved a turtle and, on returning from the Dragon Palace, found 300 years had passed. The hermitage he built beside his parents' graves became a temple popularly called Urashima-dera, and at Renpo-ji in Urashima-oka there are said to be a memorial tower for father and son and a turtle-mound monument.
