The rokuro that joins the ribs is styrax wood and more. The umbrellas were made from local materials.

The prefecture explains that Ajima umbrellas were made from materials gathered in the area: bamboo ribs, washi paper, the rokuro joining the ribs (styrax wood and others) and the red pigment bengara. Said to hold a skill for every rib, they became a Nagano Prefecture designated traditional craft on 20 September 2024.

02 / Shinjoji roof ridge

On the ridge of the main hall roof,a pair of dragons, open- and closed-mouthed, is carved.

The main hall of Shinjoji temple in Ogawa has a ridge tile 1 m high and 19 m long, on which two dragons face each other around a wish-granting jewel. According to the Minami Shinshu Shimbun, a tile craftsman from Kuroda in Kamisato Village carved them in 1891 as the temple's guardians when the thatched roof was replaced with tiles.

Charcoal making flourished in Ujinori, and the way to the area around Yahazu Pass passed the falls and crossed sheer rock by a plank walkway. The village says travelers prayed that no misfortune or error would befall them. Before 2006 (Heisei 18) the falls had two names, which were later unified.
