In 1959, at a persimmon orchard in Kayo-cho, a Hiratanenashi tree was broken by a typhoon. According to the prefecture, a Hiratanenashi scion was grafted onto it and the tree bore fruit earlier than before, and it was named Tonewase after the orchard's owner. The prefecture says the original tree has Hiratanenashi on one branch and Tonewase on the other.

This one-bay-square hall with a pyramidal roof stands in a detached part of Chogaku-ji Temple's grounds, to the west of the temple. Chogaku-ji says the thick central pillar bears most of the building's weight, that a plaque of Sanskrit characters for four Buddhas sits at the top of the pillar, and that the whole represents the Five Wisdom Buddhas. Except for its supporting posts it is open on all four sides, which is why it is also called Kasa-do, the umbrella hall.
