In snowy Uonuma, the Daimochi sled is a large mountain sled used to haul cut building timber. This one, about 6.5 m long, was made to carry the stone for a hand-washing basin to Hakkai Shrine at Yamaguchi in Jonai. The haul took place on 3 and 4 February 1902, and the villages along the way cooked meals for the haulers, a huge undertaking.

Bokushi-dori lies in Shiozawa, once a post town on the Mikuni Highway, and takes its name from the local man of letters Suzuki Bokushi. When the road widening was decided in fiscal 2001, the street's owners founded the Bokushi-dori Association and, with building agreements and design rules, recreated the post town's scenery and put in gangi arcades. The power lines are buried and the pavement is stone.
