Waji, on the northwest coast, has long been a water source. The Maga well, made in the mid-18th century, was used for New Year's first water and for drawing water to bathe newborns. Minkazantu is an open-air tank from about 1940 that stores rainwater, and in 1977 an undersea water line from Motobu was completed.

  1. 01Mount Gusuku, known as Ie Island Tacchu, is a rock mountain 172 m above sea level in the center of the island, slightly to the east; because its distinctive shape resembles an eboshi cap, ships sailing nearby have long used it as a landmark
  2. 02Apart from the area around Mount Gusuku and Mount Gohezu, where Paleozoic bedrock is exposed, the island is covered by Ryukyu limestone, and human bones and other finds have come from a cave on Mount Gohezu, the bones estimated at about 20,000 years old
  3. 03The village flower is the Easter lily, with a lily festival held from mid-April every year at Lily Field Park, and Gongendo in Nishizaki district was rebuilt in 1998 on the site of Shotaiji, a temple said to have been built at the order of King Sho Sei in the mid-16th century

If something caught your eye, ask the town itself.
