01 / Post town
A post town added laterbecame the Tōkaidō's midpoint.

Fukuroi-juku (袋井宿) was set up in 1616 between Kakegawa-juku and Mitsuke-juku, which lay about four ri apart, an unusually long stretch. Counted from Edo or from Kyoto, it is the 27th of the Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō, and the city calls itself "Tōkaidō Domannaka" (東海道どまん中, the dead centre of the Tōkaidō). In 1843 it had three honjin inns and 50 hatago inns. Tamago fuwafuwa (たまごふわふわ), a fluffy egg dish said to have been served for breakfast at a sub-honjin inn, has been recreated.
