Tsuge boxwood, whose cutting season andnumber were regulated under the island's priest.

The Tokyo Board of Education says the natural tsuge forest on the slope at Miyogaike has nine giant trees over 1 m in trunk girth, generally estimated at over 300 years old. The lower half of the mountain's tsuge is said to have been felled in the Genroku-Kyoho years, and entry times and quantities were later regulated.
