The Tokyo board of education says a rock about 30 m high rises at Otaineura and is called Fudeshima, "brush island", because it resembles the tip of a brush. Also called Otaine, it became an object of worship as a place where a god dwells. The coast was designated a Tokyo Natural Monument in 1940.

Oshima Town isthis kind of town.

  1. 01The Great Road Cut in Nomashi is a striped cross-section of layers of scoria and volcanic ash, called a "Baumkuchen" locally. The town website describes it as a cross-section of deposits laid over ridges and valleys, and the Tokyo board of education attributes the folds to false folding
  2. 02Habu Port's "seven-house" group (七軒株) was seven households that settled and built the village: five from Nomashi on Oshima and one each from Ako on Miyakejima and Kashitate on Hachijojima. The Teppoba rock-shelter site in Senzu is a composite site lived in during the Jomon, Yayoi and Kofun periods, with arrowheads of Kozushima obsidian unearthed
  3. 03Oshima's Sakura Kabu is an old Oshima cherry, designated a national Special Natural Monument in 1952, and now grows as four clumps. At high tide at Shiofuki no Hana, air compressed in a cave blows seawater out as spray. At the Okata Hachiman Shrine's New Year festival, the Teko dance is offered
