01 / Mizunote enclosure, Shingu Castle ruins
About 20 sheds for charcoal from the Kumano River basinstood at the foot of the castle's north side.

The Shingu Castle ruins became a national Historic Site in 2003. Excavation of the Mizunote enclosure on the northern foot of the castle hill confirmed about 20 charcoal sheds and a landing. The city explains that charcoal from the Kumano River basin was gathered here and carried to Edo by water. The Agency for Cultural Affairs says the domain is thought to have put a place originally military in character to economic use.
