Susami Oji Shrine holds dozens of votive plaques (ema). From the 30-odd ship plaques, the town writes, one can glimpse how Susami Port, with Inazumi Island floating off it, flourished as a stopover and refuge port on the Naniwa-Edo sea route. The prefecture has designated 52 of the shrine's plaques as Tangible Folk Cultural Properties.

Thought to be a round mound of the early 6th century, with a chamber 2.3 m long and 2.1 m wide. The Wakayama Kofun Guide notes a suggested link with stone chambers of the Higo region, from the chamber's shape. Jasper and crystal beads are of stone found on the Sea of Japan side, and the amber is thought to have been carried from Iwate or Chiba. The mound is undesignated, but its 392 excavated items are prefecturally designated.

The national commentary says the whole island is the forest of Kasuga Shrine, remarkable for its many giant woody vines such as hakamakazura, sakakikazura and nashikazura.
