02 / Mukaku Washu

A sire was brought in during 1920,and a hornless Japanese cattle breed was born.

In 1920 a sire with Aberdeen Angus bloodline was brought to Ōi Village (now Hagi) and crossed with native Japanese Black cattle, giving rise to Mukaku Washu (無角和種, Japanese Polled). As tastes turned to marbled beef, numbers fell; in 1994 Yamaguchi Prefecture and municipalities of the Abu-Hagi area, among others, set up a promotion corporation.
