This was the precinct of a temple said to have been Emperor Toba's votive temple. In the Edo period it was a temple complex of 3 sub-temples and 48 cloister houses. The main hall (Miroku-do), built in 1618, is an Important Cultural Property. The cloister-house plots and the castle sites behind them retain the old precinct's character.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries introduces Ninoseki as a weir dug about 600 years ago by the Oe clan, lords of Sagae Castle, from the right bank of the Sagae River, because the moat needed a great deal of water for the castle's renovation. It says the water opened new rice fields and laid the foundation of today's prosperity.
