Umanoseiwa is a dike in the bed of the Ure River in Toyooka, Shinshiro, and a national natural monument. The city explains that after volcanic activity about 15 million years ago, lava flowed into cracks, and the dike stood up above its surroundings. It is 122 m long, 2.9 to 6.3 m wide and about 7 m high, and is described as the most typical example of this kind of dike.

02 / Divination

A jar of red bean rice is buried, then dug up a year later to read the harvest.

Otameshi in Obata, a divination rite of the mountain deity, is a municipal intangible folk cultural property. In the small hours of the first day of the Monkey in the 11th lunar month, the representatives of the shrine's parishioners go into the hills and dig up the jar of red bean rice buried the year before. How well the rice and beans keep their shape tells the harvest, and the water level tells floods or drought. Afterwards, fresh red bean rice has been put in and the jar returned to the earth.

A wealthy Nagashino merchant opened a roadfrom Nagashino to Kawai at his own cost.

The Mochizuki Road runs about 13.7 km from Nagashino to Kawai. It was opened by a wealthy Nagashino merchant of the Mochizuki family (1822-1893), who paid out of his own pocket for the hard work of cutting a tunnel through the rock face at Makihara, where there had been no road. Work began in 1877 and was completed in 1886. The city notes that a monument commemorating the opening stands in Nagashino.
