The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's case study records that Tokugawa Iemitsu laid out and built the main gate and outer gate, and that this produced the straight line known as the vista line. Okazaki City's landscape plan (2018) designates the view from Daiju-ji to the castle keep as a protected view area.

In 1590 (Tensho 18), Tanaka Yoshimasa, lord of Okazaki Castle, is said to have invited stonemasons from Kawachi and Izumi to help develop the castle town, and that is said to be how the craft began.
