01 / Moat and earthwork
Part of a double moat and an earthen rampartremains within the temple grounds.

The Honshoji temple precinct, a national historic site, keeps part of a double moat and an earthen rampart built between the Sengoku period and the Edo period. The inner moat around the grounds is still a water moat, while the outer moat, about 320 m east to west and 310 m north to south, is mostly buried. Excavation showed that the lower part of the 16th-century moat had a steep slope of about 45 degrees.
