Yokote's kamakura is a Little New Year event honouring the water god. The city explains that in Tomachi, where merchants lived, a snow hollow was made beside a neighbourhood well on the night of the 15th of the first lunar month, the water god was enshrined in it, and people prayed for good water. It is said to have about 450 years of history and is a city-designated Intangible Folk Cultural Property.

02 / Western-style house

Kyū-Nisshinkan was built in 1902 as the home of Charles C. Champlin, an American who came to teach English at the former Yokote Middle School. A simple house of bare wood, it keeps features of Meiji-era Western architecture, such as the capitals of the entrance and balcony columns and the comb-shaped eaves. It is a private residence.

03 / Three storeys

The former Ishida Rikichi house in Masuda belonged to a family that brewed sake until before the war. Its main house, a wooden building of three full storeys, is held up by nine through-pillars, and the city says the storehouse behind it was raised in 1881. The city describes it as a wooden three-storey house that is unusual even in the prefecture.

The city says it takes about 1 hour 20 minutes from Akita to Yokote on the JR Ōu Main Line, and about 1 hour 30 minutes from Morioka via Ōmagari (both the shortest times, transfers included). There is no Akita Shinkansen station in the city; the trains stop at Ōmagari Station in Daisen. Yokote Station is where the Ōu Main Line and the Kitakami Line meet.
