Namikawa Sosuke was born in 1847 as the second son of a farming family in Jaen Village and, in the Meiji era, perfected the wireless cloisonne technique (musen shippo). The city's chronology says he invented it around 1880. In 2024 the city designated a related collection of his cloisonne works as a cultural property.

02 / Roadside trees

Sakura Domain planted wax trees along the road, called the 800-ken avenue.

In the Kansei era (1789-1801), Sakura Domain planted wax trees (haze) along the road to promote local industry; the line was called the Omade wax tree avenue of 800 ken (1,440 m). They were meant to supply candle wax but could not be harvested, and the city notes they are now known not to be Ryukyu wax trees.

03 / Tsuku-mai

Its cry is said to come from "Onmyoho,"with acrobatics performed on a pole.

Enyaho is the common name of the Shinto ritual tsuku-mai at the festival of Ota Yasaka Shrine. The city states it is held every 27 July, and it combines a silent mask drama with acrobatics atop a pole. It was selected as a national intangible folk cultural property for documentation in 1999 and designated a prefectural one in 2008.
