The city explains that coral that lived about 6,000 years ago survives as fossils about 1 km inland from the coast, at roughly 20 m above sea level in Numa. Crustal uplift after the Jomon transgression left it on the hillside. Numa-layer coral fossils are found widely across Boso, with 75 species confirmed.
