To deal with a water shortage, the former Navy dammed the Niko River and built this reservoir, completed in 1918. The dam is 97 m long and 25 m high. Cast-iron pipes and sluice valves remain in their original state, and as a working waterworks it became a National Important Cultural Property. It is normally closed to visitors and opens to the public during the cherry blossom season.
