The shogunate cut a mountain path to replacea coastal road hard to pass in bad weather.

According to the Agency for Cultural Affairs, the Edo shogunate cut this mountain path in 1799 (Kansei 11) to replace a coastal road that was hard to pass in bad weather. Of its 7.12 km, 4.51 km survives in good condition inside Hokkaido-owned forest, and the path is about 0.9 m wide. Ino Tadataka and Enomoto Takeaki also used it.

According to the Mt. Apoi Geopark, Cape Enrumu was originally an island; sand built up between it and the land until it became a land-tied island. Jutting into the sea, it suited anchoring ships and prospered as a port from early times. The cliff on the back side of the cape has joints formed as magma cooled and hardened.

The Mt. Apoi Geopark presents three rocks offshore that nestle together like parent and child as Oyako-iwa, a symbol of Samani alongside Mt. Apoi. It says that only during a certain period in winter does the sun set between the rocks. The beach in front is the only swimming beach in the Hidaka area, according to the town.
