01 / Golf

Japan's first golf ironwas forged in this town.

In 1928 Matsuoka Bunji went to Miki to arrange cup cutters for the new Hirono golf course, but the iron heads caught his eye instead. He asked Morita Seitaro, a blacksmith in Kawabe (now Nishikawabe, Ichikawa), to make one. With no model to copy, it took until 1930. Some 20 golf firms still work here.

  • First head finished in 1930
  • About 20 golf-related firms
  • Test hitting: 500 yen / 30 min
