Tonomine Plateau01 ／ Plateau
Tonomine Plateau (砥峰高原), a prefectural natural park, carries about 90 hectares of susuki pampas grass. The film Norwegian Wood and the NHK dramas Taira no Kiyomori and Gunshi Kanbei were shot here. Snow closes the road from December to late March.
02 ／ Road
The Ginno Bashamichi (銀の馬車道), the 73 km carriage road from the port of Shikama in Himeji to the Ikuno mine, was named a Japan Heritage site in 2017 together with the Mineral Road. The only surviving stretch of the roadbed is in this town; visitors park at the Ginno Bashamichi Kamikawa roadside station and walk.
03 ／ Snow
Mineyama Kogen Resort White Peak has three runs and what it calls the largest kids' park in the prefecture. Forest covers 80 percent of the town's 202 square kilometres, ringed by peaks of over 1,000 metres such as Senchogamine (千町ヶ峰) and Gyosei-zan (暁晴山).
Living here
The town itself points out that its outline looks like a heart. The JR Bantan Line stops at Teramae and Niino (新野), the Bantan Expressway runs north to south, and the settlements sit along the Ichikawa and Ochi rivers.
