01 / Katano Duck Pond and the sakaami hunt
A net-hunt for ducks,now a prefectural treasure.

Katano Duck Pond became a Ramsar wetland in 1993, a wintering ground for geese and ducks. The sakaami net-hunt, practiced here since the Edo period, was named an Ishikawa Prefecture cultural property in December 2025, along with its tools. Hunters throw rake-shaped nets upward from a hillside called a sakaba, aiming for ducks that leave at dusk and return at dawn.
