02 / Town planning

Beauty is not a matter of taste:the town set eight principles.

To keep the everyday scenery of a nostalgic port town, the town wrote the “Beauty Standards” design code under its town planning ordinance. Its eight principles are place, grading, scale, harmony, materials, decoration and art, community, and view. It is not enforced; it is made together, it says.
