Tosa City isthis kind of town.

  1. 01The Seiryuji Road of the Tosa Pilgrimage Road runs from Temple 35, Kiyotaki-ji, to Temple 36, Shōryū-ji, and the Agency for Cultural Affairs writes that the part crossing Tsukajizaka (塚地坂) keeps its old form. From the lookout on the pass you can see the village of Usa and Usa Bay; on rock blocks along the slope, distance-marker characters are carved, and roadside cliff Buddhas stand on the Usa side. The Tosa Pilgrimage Road was designated a National Historic Site in 2016.
  2. 02The Izumi Family Residence bonito-flake workshop in Usa is a Registered Tangible Cultural Property with a kettle room, smoking room, mold room and storeroom. The tourism association introduces Usa as the birthplace of "improved Tosa-bushi" bonito flakes, and the "production techniques of Tosa-bushi" were selected as a Registered Intangible Folk Cultural Property in 2021. The Yokonami mélange (2011) and the Tachibana grove on Mt. Matsuo in Kanbara (2008) are both National Natural Monuments.
  3. 03The tourism association introduces Kamata Isuji (鎌田井筋), an irrigation channel flowing through the Takaoka area, as built by Nonaka Kenzan and still in use after more than 350 years. It also introduces the tug-of-war begun to raise the spirits of its builders as today's Tosa City Otsuna Festival. In Ichinono stands the Junshin-do, a hall built by volunteers where the monk Junshin of the Yosakoi-bushi song was born.
