A plant community covering the whole hill on the right bank of the Honmyo River (本明川), about 1 km around and about 50 m high. Saigo Hisayoshi (西郷尚善) built a castle on this hill in the medieval period, and it is now Isahaya Park. Hizen-mayumi (ヒゼンマユミ) grows more abundantly and densely here than anywhere else in Kyushu, with many large trees. Large camphor trees can also be seen.

The "Nakamura" on the box is thought to beNakamura Kisuke of the Saga domain's Seirenkata.

A pointer telegraph in two units, a transmitter and a receiver. Turning the transmitter's dial turns the receiver's pointer, and pressing the key rings a bell. The box inscription suggests it was devised by 1864 (Genji 1). In 1854 (Kaei 7), the lord Nabeshima Naomasa (鍋島直正) ordered the Seirenkata (精煉方) to build a telegraph. It is kept at the Isahaya Museum of Art and History (諫早市美術・歴史館).

Isahaya City isthis kind of town.

  1. 01The Isahaya Megane Bridge (諫早眼鏡橋) is a stone two-arch bridge built over the Honmyo River in 1839 (Tenpo 10), about 50 m long, now standing in Isahaya Park. Word came from the Saga domain that an envoy and an inspector would visit the Isahaya domain, and a bridge was decided on because having none would touch the domain's honor; the cost is said to have been shared in thirds by the lord, the villagers' labor and monks' alms collecting.
  2. 02For about 260 years in the Edo period, Isahaya was the Isahaya domain of the Saga domain. In Mizunoura (水ノ浦) in Takaki there is a stone-walled sukui (スクイ) fishing ground, in Moriyama the shogi grave (将棋墓) of the senryu master Nakayama Gohei (中山五平), at the temple Keiganji (慶巌寺) a stele dated Jowa 7 (1351), and in Konagai the Nagato Onizuka Kofun (長戸鬼塚古墳), with carvings that appear to be a whale and a boat. Konagai also has 16 bus stops shaped like strawberries, oranges and other fruit.
