01 / Itoman Fishing Tools

Women's peddling gear joins the fishing toolsin the collection.

The Itoman fishing tools, registered in 2026 as a national Registered Tangible Folk Cultural Property, include mikagan (undersea goggles), sabani boat gear, and tools for agiya, a diving drive-fishing method. Also collected are the sales tools women used for peddling, for the men who went out to fish.

A national historic site in Kyan, Itoman. The city calls it the southernmost gusuku (Ryukyuan castle site) on Okinawa's main island. It stands on a sea-eroded cliff about 17 m high jutting into the sea, and inside is a hole called Hifuchimi that leads to the sea. A castle site of the same name stands in Kumejima Town.

03 / Yonosuke Port at Odo

Not handing out the relief money as it was,jobs were made by opening a harbor mouth in the reef.

In the great drought of 1904, Saito Yonosuke, then head of Shimajiri District, chose not to hand out the relief money as it was; to create jobs through public works, he began cutting through the reef off today's Odo Beach. The port was completed in 1907, letting boats come and go even at low tide.
