Ishiguro Nobuyoshi (石黒信由, 1760–1836) was born in Takagi village (高木村) in Imizu District. He applied wasan, traditional Japanese mathematics, to land reclamation and surveying, and on the orders of the Kaga domain surveyed Etchū, Kaga and Noto. In 1803 he met the surveyor Inō Tadataka and went on to improve his instruments. The Kaetsunō Sanshū Gunwake Ryaku Ezu (加越能三州郡分略絵図), surveyed and drawn over eight years from 1819, is accurate even when compared with modern maps. 6,390 of his papers and maps are an Important Cultural Property.

A god invited from the seais received on a temporary mountain.

At the autumn festival of Hōjōzu Hachiman Shrine (放生津八幡宮), on the evening of 30 September the spirit of a god invited from the sea is received on the tsukiyama (築山), a temporary altar built in the shrine grounds. On 2 October it is dressed with figures of the chief deity, called Onbasama (オンバサマ), the Four Heavenly Kings and guests, and opened to the public. Such rites are rare in Japan. Together with the festival floats, it became an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property in 2021 and was inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2025.

She has been on show at Toyama Shinko Port (富山新港) since 1990, and about ten times a year between April and October, volunteers and crew climb the masts to set all 29 sails in a full-sail display (総帆展帆).
