01 / Oku Kyodoten

A store founded in 1906 with residents' fundswas also entrusted with a tax association.

Oku Kyodoten is a cooperative store founded in 1906 and funded by local residents. Its chronology records that in 1910 a tax association was set up and its management entrusted to the store, and that the prefectural governor gave a commendation in 1912.

02 / Ada Shinugu

Men who climbed the mountaincast everything they wore into the sea.

At midday on the festival day, men of Ada climb the mountain, put on headdresses of vines and leaves, and come down beating drums. Later, at the shore, they pray to mountain and sea and enter the water to cast away everything they wore. At night, a women's circle dance continues in the yard of the Kami-asagi, the Agency for Cultural Affairs explains.

03 / Tomb of King Gihon

The tomb said to hold King Gihonwas reportedly renovated by the Sho family in the early Meiji era.

In Hedo stands a tomb said to hold King Gihon, the third of the Shunten line, and it is a village-designated cultural property. Piled from Ryukyu limestone, it measures about 3 meters in both width and depth on the outside. Tombs said to be his are also found in several other places, such as Kitanakagusuku.

Kunigami has no railway, and its gateway is Hentona Bus Terminal. The tourism association describes a route by highway bus from Naha Airport to Nago Bus Terminal, then local bus route 67, the Hentona line. Within the village, the village-run Oku and Higashi bus lines operate, with some time slots by reservation.
