A house of old shipmasters to the Ryukyu court,with its kitchen inside the main building.

Takara House on Geruma Island belonged to a family that served as shipmasters under the Ryukyu court, and was designated a national Important Cultural Property in 1988. It was first thatched, and was re-roofed with red tiles in the Taisho era. The kitchen is inside the main building, not a separate one.

02 / Aka Ohashi Bridge

Aka and Geruma, once reached only by small boat,are joined by a 530 m bridge.

Aka Ohashi Bridge joins Aka Island and Geruma Island. It is 530 m long and opened in June 1998. Before it was built, only small boats served between the islands, and the prefecture's material records that this was inconvenient in bad weather and for emergency transport. Geruma Island and Fukaji Island are joined by Geruma Bridge.

03 / Bonito Fishing

Bonito fishing, begun by the first village mayor,spread across Okinawa, the village says.

The village's official site says that in 1901 the first village mayor, Matsuda Wasaburo, started bonito fishing, and that it spread across Okinawa. Short of successors, it ended as an industry. The Ministry of the Environment's guide notes a memorial made in 1922 on Zamami Island.
