It began in 1924, when the old Shida Middle School (志太中学, now Fujieda Higashi High School) made football its school sport. Fujieda Higashi became the first high school to win the triple crown of the Inter-High, the National Sports Festival and the national championship, and in the 1970 school year the city's primary, middle and high school teams all won national titles. Japan's first youth football club of the Sports Youth Club movement (サッカースポーツ少年団) was also founded here.
