The first, Yoshifuyu (Yoshitsuna), settled there, and his son Yoshihide became the 14th shogun. The mansion no longer stands; the Awa Kubo Folk Museum occupies the site.
  2. 02The Wakasugiyama Cinnabar Mining Site in Mizui-cho is a national historic site where cinnabar, the source of red pigment, was mined. Ishima lies in the Kii Channel east of Cape Kamoda, and the Byodoji Road over Daikon Pass is a section added to the national historic site "Awa Henro-michi".
  3. 03The marble "Kotajima" from Tsunomine-cho Higashibun was used for the spectators' stairs and other parts of the National Diet Building, and its quarry site is a city-designated historic site. Tairyuji and Byodoji are temples on the Shikoku pilgrimage, and Tsubakidomari has the site of the Mori clan's castle (松鶴城).
