01 / Sue ware

Sue ware shards from kiln sitesare inscribed "Hotogi no Sato".

Ten inscribed Sue ware pieces from Chojida Kiln No. 1 (later 7th century) and Ichigahora Kiln No. 1 (late 7th to early 8th century) are city-designated. The city reads the inscription as Hotogi no Sato, and notes that a jar with the same characters was also found at the Ishigami site in Nara.

  • The characters read "sato"
  • Same inscription at Ishigami

02 / Old kiln

A kiln that fired long-necked bottlesto one size kept its body after excavation.

Mitsugamine Kiln No. 3 dates from the late 8th to early 9th century, and its body was preserved after the 1981 excavation. Most finds, such as long-necked bottles, were made to the same standard; the city says they were probably made as tribute goods under state rules.

  • Late 8th to early 9th century
  • City historic site, 1997
  • Bottles of one standard

03 / Bo-no-te

Horse festivals split into three districts, with staff and gun squads guarding the horse.

The Uma-no-to (Omanto) offers horses bearing standards to shrines. It is held by three districts, Nagakute, Iwasaku and Kamigo, and staff-fighting and musket squads guard the horse, hence the name Keigo festival. Bo-no-te and the Iwasaku and Nagakute festivals are prefecture-designated. The city says the origin of Bo-no-te has no settled theory.

  • Three districts
  • 3 prefectural folk properties
  • Origin has no settled theory
