Konagaso Pottery Kiln Site, part of the national historic site Seto Kiln Sites, fired Ko-Seto ware in the early Muromachi period. The wall and five pillars in the middle of its firing chamber are unusual, and the city reads them as showing that the kiln was reused in the mid-Edo period. A record from 1699 appears in the Shushu Zasshi, and a protective roof covers the kiln body.

  • Kiln of the late 14th to early 15th century
  • A record dated 1699
  • Historic site, designated 1971, extended 2015

The former Yamashige Shoten is a group of buildings of a ceramics wholesaler on the hillside north of the Seto River, once called Kitashintani. Nine buildings, including the detached room, storehouse and old office, are nationally registered tangible cultural properties. The old office, built in 1914, has an earth-floored office with traces of a counter on the ground floor, and its roof frame is a truss structure.

  • Nine buildings registered in 2015
  • Old office built in 1914
  • Detached room built in 1889

03 / Workshop

A single motor once drove the wheels and clay mills;that arrangement survives in the workshop.

In Seto, a ceramics workshop is called a moro. The Ojigama Moro, a two-story wooden building from 1900, has a clay storage area and a wheel room on the ground floor, with almost no windows to keep the clay from drying. Its wares were fired in the Ojigama, a climbing kiln of 11 chambers used until 1968.

  • Built in 1900
  • Ojigama kiln of 11 chambers
  • Listed among the city's designated and registered properties
