A large square tumulus of the first half of the 7th century. The city explains that from the late 16th century through the 17th and 18th, potters from nearby kilns reused the stone chamber as a workshop and the like. When that use ended, it became a place of prayer to Toso-shin, the deity of potters, and to a mountain deity, and the rites continue to this day.

  • Stone chamber 19.2 m long

The Motoyashiki kiln is a renbo-shiki noborigama, a climbing kiln of linked chambers, about 24.7 m long and 2.2 m wide, with 14 firing chambers following the firebox and combustion chamber. The city explains that this structure is thought to have been introduced from Karatsu in Kyushu, and Oribe wares such as Kuro-Oribe, Ao-Oribe and Shino-Oribe were made here.

Enclosures, stone walls and earthworks remain over about 200 m square at the summit, and at the northern foot of the hill a mansion for the lord and houses for his retainers were built. The summit is the Tsumagi Castle site and the foot is the samurai residence site, both Prefectural Historic Sites.
