Naowa-haiji was a temple of the Hakuho period. From the relic hole in the pagoda's central foundation stone came a glass relic container, a stone outer container and a Tang sancai bowl set over it, all found together. These objects were designated an Important Cultural Property in 1989 and are kept at the Asahi Town History Museum. The temple site is a prefectural historic site.

02 / Banko ware

Banko ware began when a Kuwana merchantbuilt a kiln at Obuke.

In the Genbun era (1736 to 1740), the wealthy Kuwana merchant Nunami Rozan built a kiln at Obuke. After the ware died out, Mori Yusetsu revived it in the third year of Tenpo at Nadani in Obuke. The Yusetsu Banko kiln site is a prefectural historic site; excavation found a multi-chambered climbing kiln about 17 m long and about 3.6 m wide, with the whole kiln body surviving.

Tachibana Moribe was a scholar of kokugaku, born in Obuke in the first year of Tenmei (1781). While Motoori Norinaga's theories were the mainstream of the field, Moribe criticised them and developed his own, writing many works. He is counted as one of the four great kokugaku scholars of the Tenpo era, and his birthplace is a prefectural historic site.
