Around 1884-85, the lion dance changedfrom five-beat to three-beat rhythm.

The prefecture's record says the Yokohama lion dance changed its rhythm from the five-beat style to the three-beat style around 1884-85. Dancers use a lion head, a bonten wand, swords, trays and fans, with flute, drum and hand gong. Three-beat kagura is said to have been brought to Shimokita and Kamikita by mountain ascetics; the town's kagura was already performed around 1770.
