After the village system began in 1889, the office stood in neighbouring Tanabu Town because the hamlets were scattered. The building moved to Sunamata, inside the village, in 1988. The village says the office, exchange centre and gymnasium are a triangle, circle and square, meaning heaven, earth and people.
