To settle a mountain-boundary dispute,a model of the land was made.

Made in 1665 (Kanbun 5) during the shogunate's ruling on a mountain-boundary dispute between Meguro Village of Yoshida Domain and a village of Uwajima Domain, this wooden model splits into six parts and is scaled at about 1:5,900. With its base map and documents it is a national Important Cultural Property. Visits to the Meguro Furusato-kan need a reservation.

  • Scale about 1:5,900; splits into six parts
  • Agency for Cultural Affairs: no other case of a model and base map surviving together

02 / Kagomori Castle Ruins (河後森城跡)

Round holes cut into the bedrock, thought to be post holes, are found in numbers.

A hilltop castle site on the Iyo-Tosa border, on an isolated ridge above the Hiromi River. Excavation, begun in fiscal 1991, has found many round holes cut into the bedrock of the enclosures, thought to be post holes for buildings, gates and earthen walls. A tradition says its keep was moved to Uwajima Castle.

  • Main enclosure: 171m above sea level, 88m above the foot (Agency for Cultural Affairs)
  • Excavation since fiscal 1991

A mountain stream flowing down from the Onigajo range (鬼ヶ城山系) in the upper Shimanto River basin. Smooth slabs of bedrock cover the whole streambed, and their resemblance to a great hall gave Senjojiki (千畳敷) its name. Literati once held haiku gatherings and banquets here, it is said. The Nametoko Recreation Forest around it spans Uwajima, Kihoku and Matsuno.
